Schengen Visa Types We Support

Short-Stay Tourist Visa (Type C)

For tourism, sightseeing, and private visits. Stays are limited by the 90/180-day rule unless your visa sticker specifies otherwise.

Business Visa

For meetings, conferences, trade fairs, and short business activities. You still apply for a Schengen short-stay visa with a business purpose and supporting documents.

Transit Visa

For passing through the international transit area of a Schengen airport or for short land transit when required by your nationality or itinerary.

Medical Visa

For planned medical treatment in a Schengen state. Requires proof of appointment, treatment plan, and ability to pay for care and stay.

The Schengen Area & Where to Apply

The Schengen Area is a zone of 27 European countries that have abolished internal border checks. With a valid Schengen visa, you can travel within these states according to your visa’s validity, duration of stay, and number of entries.

You must lodge your application at the embassy or consulate of your main destination — the country where you will spend the most nights, or the first port of entry if stays are equal. If no single main destination applies, rules are set by the member state of first entry.

Application centres in India

Most Schengen states outsource appointments to VFS Global or BLS International across Indian cities (e.g. New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru). The exact provider and address depend on the country you apply to — always book through the official embassy or outsourcing partner website for that country.

  • VFS Global — multiple Schengen countries
  • BLS International — selected Schengen countries
  • Embassy/consulate — some applications direct
  • Check your destination country’s official site

Schengen Visa Application — Dos & Don'ts

Do's

Apply at the correct embassy / main destination

File with the member state where you spend the most time, or follow first-entry rules when stays are split equally.

Buy travel insurance with minimum EUR 30,000 coverage

Valid across the whole Schengen Area for medical emergencies and repatriation — a standard requirement.

Book refundable or flexible flights where possible

Plans can change before a decision; refundable options reduce financial risk if dates shift.

Provide a clear cover letter

Explain purpose of visit, itinerary, main destination, and how you will fund the trip — aligned with your supporting documents.

Respect the 90-day limit in any 180-day period

Track days carefully; overstaying can lead to fines, entry bans, and future visa refusals.

Apply within the allowed window — not too early or late

You may apply up to 6 months before travel (15 days minimum before intended departure in normal cases) so the visa fits your real dates.

Don'ts

Don’t apply at the wrong embassy to get an earlier slot

“Visa shopping” conflicts with main-destination rules and can result in refusal or cancelled visas.

Don’t skip or under-buy travel insurance

Policies below EUR 30,000 or excluding Schengen-wide coverage often lead to rejection.

Don’t rely only on non-refundable bookings

If plans change before approval, you can lose large sums — balance proof of travel with flexibility.

Don’t submit a vague or copy-paste cover letter

Generic letters that don’t match your itinerary or finances weaken credibility.

Don’t overstay the 90/180-day rule

Even one day over can have serious consequences for future Schengen and EU travel.

Don’t apply too early or too late for your trip

Too early may waste validity; too late risks no decision before departure — plan around the 15-day standard and your travel date.

Step-by-Step Schengen Visa Application Process

Step 1

Determine Your Main Destination Country

Identify which Schengen state is your main destination (longest stay) or, if equal nights, which is your first entry. You will apply to that country’s consulate or its VFS Global / BLS centre in India.

Tip: Print a simple day-by-day itinerary to justify your choice
Step 2

Fill the Schengen Visa Application Form

Download or complete online the application form required by your destination country (harmonised Schengen form or national variant). Answer accurately, sign where required, and ensure details match your passport and travel documents.

Estimated time: 30-60 minutes
Step 3

Gather Required Documents

Collect essential items (passport, photos, form, fee, insurance) and supporting evidence (finances, employment, bookings, cover letter, invitation/NOC). Use the embassy’s official checklist — requirements can vary slightly by country.

Step 4

Book a VFS Global / BLS or Embassy Appointment

Register on the official website of your destination’s embassy or its outsourcing partner (VFS Global or BLS International) in your city. Choose a slot that leaves enough time for processing before travel.

Pro tip: Peak season slots disappear fast — book as soon as your dates are firm.
Step 5

Submit Your Application and Biometrics

Attend your appointment with originals and copies. Pay fees if not prepaid. Provide fingerprints and photo if required (first-time Schengen applicants and per visa code rules). An interview may be requested.

Step 6

Wait for the Decision

Under normal circumstances, embassies aim to decide within 15 calendar days. Complex cases can take longer. Track your application through VFS/BLS or embassy tools. Collect your passport with the visa sticker or refusal notice.

Standard: up to 15 calendar days (allow 2-4 weeks in practice)

Frequently Asked Questions — Schengen Visa

Apply to the Schengen country where you will spend the most nights. If you stay an equal number of nights in several countries, apply to the state of first entry. Applying elsewhere to get a faster appointment can breach the rules and harm your application.
A multiple-entry visa lets you enter the Schengen Area more than once while the visa is valid, within the allowed duration of stay per visit and the 90/180-day rule. Single- and double-entry visas limit how many times you may cross external Schengen borders during validity.
Yes — a valid uniform Schengen short-stay visa normally allows travel to all Schengen member states, provided your trip still matches the purpose and itinerary you declared, and you respect entry type (single/multiple) and maximum stay. Carry proof of itinerary and insurance.
You may stay at most 90 days in any rolling 180-day period in the Schengen Area on a short-stay visa or visa-free stay. Days are counted across all Schengen states combined. Use a Schengen calculator to track entries and exits; overstaying is taken seriously.
Common reasons include insufficient proof of funds, weak ties to home country, invalid or inadequate insurance, inconsistent itinerary or documents, doubtful purpose of travel, passport issues, or applying at the wrong consulate. The refusal letter states a standard reason code; you may reapply or appeal depending on the country’s rules.
